This video was shot three months after Typhoon Yolanda (or Haiyan) on northern Cebu island in the Philippines. Fortunately for those I met, it wasn’t the worst hit area. Nonetheless, from women’s accounts of the experience it was clear the trauma was still very real. And the cost of rebuilding – often involving amassing debt – remains a huge cause of stress for families who were merely scratching by even before the disaster. Since the typhoon struck, ActionAid has been working to support women leaders across the storm-hit region to rebuild their communities.
