There are so many ways that you can save energy in your home that you didn’t even know were possible. It doesn’t take much effort to save hundreds for you and your family if you pay attention to details and are willing to make a small investment.
Of course you know to turn the light off when you walk out of the room. You can save a large percentage on your electric bill by simply switching off the lights. But, did you know that if you get energy saving lamps and light bulbs you can have a shockingly low bill?
If you read at night in bed, use a book light rather than your lamp that lights up the whole room. It will save your partner from annoyance of not being able to sleep and it will save you even more money on your electricity bill.
Other things such as opening the windows at night before bed and closing them during the day when you wake up and then closing the shades on really hot days will allow you to save on energy. You will have to run your air conditioner a lot less. Why spend extra when you don’t have to?
Turn the water on less hard when you take a shower. If you do that then you will be saving on the water bill AND also saving on the heat bill. Whether you have an electric water heating tank or a gas heater you will be able to save. You can also go the extra mile and set a timer so you are in there for a less length of time.
Of course there is that one investment that you can always splurge on too. If it feels like it’s always too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter even though you blast the air system, then you probably have an insulation problem. Most insulation problems come from the attic. So, if you just insulate the roof inside and out then you will definitely be spending a lot less on your heating and cooling bills.
Saving on energy bills not only saves you plenty of money over the course of the year but it is a great gesture to do your part in saving our dying planet. Whether you are using the low setting on your light dimmer or making an effort to open the refrigerator less every little bit counts for you and for everyone else in the saving process.
