The women of Rumate, Kenya — which is also known as the dry place — walked hours every day through dangerous terrain to reach a water source, until World Vision offered to drill water for them. The women banded together to create a road so that the trucks and drilling equipment could reach them. With access to clean water close to home, the women in the community now had hours of time back to dedicate to other things. So, what happens after clean water? The Beyond Access program is placing women and girls at the center of development, and when the barriers to clean water access, economic opportunity, and microfinance are eliminated, entire communities are transformed.
