We all know that when we are hurting it is all we can think about. We focus on the source of our pain and when your heart is breaking it is all you can do to stop yourself thinking about your ex after a breakup. As hard as it is, you need to make the break and concentrate your efforts on focusing elsewhere. While you do need to work through your grief over the split, you also need to step back and see the bigger picture too.
Here are the 5 best things you can do to take your mind off things for a bit.
Night Out
Get out with your friends and go do stuff that you enjoy. Focus on being with them and forgetting all about your troubles for the evening. Reconnect with friends that perhaps you had not caught up with while you were a couple and really enjoy their company and focus on them.
Spa Treats
Make a date with yourself at a spa or go with a good friend. Take this time to simply relax and enjoy the treatments. Clear your mind of everything for the time that you are there and let your tensions fall off you. Relaxing and enjoying the experience you are in at that time will help you get your mind off your ex, and let’s face it, pampering yourself like this is incredibly enjoyable. You don’t want to think about anything that is sad or negative when treating yourself to a spa.
Remove Reminders
If you have things that belong to your ex or things that have strong memories of your ex, consider getting rid of them. Certainly give back anything that is your ex’s and give, sell or throw away everything else that is connected to them. Of course, if it something that you really want to keep for other reasons then consider storing it away for a time, till you have been able to heal your broken heart and no longer have thoughts of your ex.
Date or Join An Interest Group
If dating is too early for you, join a group and get engaged in a hobby or interest that you have always wanted to explore. If there has not been anything you really wanted to do, then pick something that you might be interested in and give it a go. If nothing else it will get you out of the house and meeting new people and that is good!
Go Wider and Broader – Abroad, That Is
If you have the time and money now is the perfect time to see something of the rest of the world. You might like to ask a good friend if they have ever thought of traveling and make plans to visit places you both want to see, or you can get going on your own and check out new places and people. You will get so caught up in your travel you will have very little time to reflect on your ex and your past relationship. You may even find a place where you decide to stay for a while and immerse yourself in the culture and find out new things about yourself into the bargain.
Just because you have been pushed off the “couple’s carousal” does not mean that you cannot partake of the “life carousal.” It is too easy to wallow in your sorrow and stop living your life for a period, when you could be setting your sights on living with hope and exploration. Don’t forget life is an adventure and if one dream or path does not pan out, there are many more paths that can become part of your life’s story.
Why waste a moment mourning a love that perhaps was not really meant to be, otherwise you would still be with your ex and not trying desperately to stop yourself thinking about your ex after a breakup.
