The Fool is the First card in the 22 trump Tarot cards (Major Arcana) and is assigned with the number 0. It represents the start of the Fool’s journey and it represents a period of awakenings and unlimited potential, fresh starts, as well as endings as the 0 also symbolises completed cycles.

Referring to the Rider-Waite image of the card, you will see that The Fool is walking right towards the edge of a cliff without looking at where he is going. When The Fool shows up in a reading, it is often a sign that something new and unpredictable is about to happen. This is the “leap of faith” card, reminding you to have faith in the Universe as well as in yourself.

This Fool is often depicted as impractical, innocent, spontaneous, someone who is unsure of which direction to take, or even where they may end up. However, contrary to popular belief, he does not represent someone who is crazy, foolish or stupid. Instead, he represents being a novice at something and willing to take the leap, willing to grow. With each step he takes, He learns something new and progress is made.

You may be starting on a new chapter in your life, or you may be at a crossroad, facing a critical decision. It is telling you to put the past behind you and start afresh, take the risk and take that leap into the unknown.

In order to make way for new phase to begin, the old methods have to end. This is a card of transformation and change with a deep spiritual meaning or lesson in which the big changes and decisions ahead may be exciting but may not be easy to make. However, it holds importance over your future and its lesson and influence will soon become clear to you.

The Fool encourages you to tap on the wisdom you’ve gained through your life experiences as you embark on the new chapter. Be open to taking risks and have the courage to give up old habits and plant seeds of good intentions to achieve a new level of happiness as new opportunities for growth are on their way.

All in all, The Fool is a very powerful card because it indicates unlimited possibilities and endless outcomes. It represents the spark where ideas take place, and something is made from nothing. There may be uncertainty, but it a sign of good luck or a good omen. Now is the time to drop your inhibitions, face your fears and press on to travel into the dark and unknown awaiting you on the other side. Immerse fully in the journey but watch your step.
