For people with physical ailments such as arthritis, getting dressed in the morning is not usually an enjoyable task. Over 20 million American adults have their mobility limited or crippled by arthritis, and that number is unfortunately growing. It’s heartbreaking to see a loved one or a family member struggle to accomplish simple tasks such as putting on a shirt or tying their shoes. Fortunately, designers are starting to adapt whole lines of clothing to cater to this special need, and to instill a sense of positivity in those affected by physical ailments.

Adaptive clothing can also be referred to as easy access clothes due to their simple closures and its role in increasing the ease of dressing. These articles of clothes often fit into many styles and usages; they can be jackets, skirts, scarves, pants much more! Many of these items of clothes are adorned with Velcro or simple, light snaps. These adornments allow the wearer to very easily dress, even with the complications that come with physical disabilities. Due to this, the daunting and defeating task of getting dressed to go out is no longer a painstaking process, but rather a positive experience!

Style is something that any person of any age and physical capability would love to keep. Unfortunately, many of the easy access options of the past were limiting on style. The feeling of insecurity that comes from clothing that is worn simply because there is no other option is debilitating. When trying to overcome a physical challenge, the last thing that a person needs is a lack of confidence about difficulties of which they cannot control. Fortunately, designers and entrepreneurs have taken it upon themselves to conquer this challenge and make intuitive clothing that is both fashionable and adaptive.

The new options that are available for those seeking adaptive apparel are excellent. By combining this ease of use which allows these items to be worn by almost anyone with the premier styles of modern fashion, designers are beginning to revolutionize the industry and instill confidence in the hearts of the differently-abled wearers of their clothing. These fashion-positive styles create a mindset that supersedes a negative outlook toward a disability. They create a sense of hope for those who would love to look great but feel that they simply cannot anymore. This new sense of hope can help turn stressful mornings into relaxing days and help make life seem a little brighter.
